Good Morning! This week flew by and I cant believe its already Friday! I know live feeding is controversial for sure, but it can be a nessecary evil unfortunately. I figure I would talk about the process and clear a few things about it. Hope you guys don't mind. Busy weekend here at The Reptarium as always! Lots of tours, bday parties and we are sold out for open to the public hours. As for me I have been feeling better this past week and hoping to build on a good week. I hope to not have anymore set backs in anxiety. But I will keep working hard to get better and stay better! As you guys know I live a crazy life with so many moving parts that it can be hard not to become overwhelmed. But I am working on not allowing it all to build up and to take things one at a time. With that said we have a lot of exciting things to share soon. It will be a really awesome year for new projects and new ventures! I am so glad you guys will join me on this journey! 20 years in the hobby and never had to feed live, in the event of no choice but to try then i would otherwise its not mother nature as snakes dont have 100% success rate when hunting and we are not creating an environment that replicates that. As I said, if necessary then it is what it is, but those that choose and then say that its nature are just trying to justify their enjoyment. You can easily replicate the necessary conditions for a snake to always strike, just mimic the motion of a moving animal with the dead one and if you have defrosted correctly it will be fine most of the time...Or in my experience every single time.

I got my first snake from bhb and said she was on live... and I was so thankful when she took a frozen-thawed mouse right away.

I preferred live feeding. It seemed the snake did too! I got a redtail, he was beautiful, the guy said he was ready to eat but waited for his move with me, so I would get to give him his meal, the guy said he eats bunnies., Frozen, not live. So frozen bunny was hard to come by. He wouldnt eat the bunny. So now I had a bunny. I tried rats, No. I noticed something on his lip and mucus in his mouth, got him checked out by vet and he had the start of a respiratory infection, got him all work out and still he wouldn't eat anything dead. Six months later I started feeding him fish, then he let me hand feed him a dead rat, but I had to hold it. He didn't want any other dead rat after that first one. Weeks passed and I tried a live rat, and he loved it! He would wrap on his stick perch and strike down at the rat, wrap him up while hanging and consume him right like that! It was amazing to see him go through the changes of environment and not being anything like what the guy I got him from said. He was so amazing and loved going for walks. He had a great personality. And was Uber picky about food.

I used to take my ball python out of its habitat and put it in a box and it knew it was feeding time. This way when it was time to feed it would be primed in the box and not the cage lol. I tried to feed him frozen but he wouldn't . He was a picky eater .

Live feeding is natural & how it is meant to be. Some snakes will only eat live & it's a necessary part of owning reptiles.

I have tried FT, I have tried FK, I have tried soaked, dry, warm, cool and brained FT, but Ehre eats live. Ehre was my first snake so I had a lot to learn and he is healthy and that is what what matters. Ehre is also a tried and true mouser. He will not eat rats or ASF... But honestly I don't have a problem with live...

I know this is not sensible and probally terrible but part of me wanted a boomslang in one of the tall enclosures

i love your channel, but as spmeone who has kept tarantulas for 25 years i know how unpredictable they and kids are. seeing young kids stood up holding one made me cringe. if that kid panicked and dropped that tarantula or it jumped from her hand, which happens, it would die nstantly as its abdomen got ruptured. please have them sit close to the floor whule holding them.

Every time I see the looks on the kids faces, I wish there was the reptarium when I used to live in Michigan. Definitely going there once COVID is over

I can understand the disinclination to feed live animal but the thawed food was ones alive?

I for the life of me have never understood why people have so much against live feeding, these reptiles kill and eat their prey in the wild. It is 100% natural. I get the weak stomach or whatever but having a moral objection to it, I don't see a leg to stand on from that argument.

Bearded dragon chameleon are a bird you have A sloth so why not?

The one with the side that has the empty cage I think you should put a tree and put a hole at the bottom of the cage so they can climb down the tree into the other enclosure if the two animals get along

I'm glad he has the "zoo" so a few reptiles are happy, but the racks, weird morphs, cutting eggs for previews, rough handling, little enrichment, masses of public causing stress, handling tarantulas, giving them to kids to hold etc he should be ashamed. Putting profit and experience over anything else. He's the face of the hobby as far as many are concerned I expect more!! His problems are melting away cos of the amount of $$$ he's making on the back of these poor animals fucked exploited lives 😓😓

Rats are cute little animals and I don’t like to feed them live either though I do have a carpet python that has quit eating frozen thawed so I give her live.

Totally understand the point you've done Bryan, personally I had the first snake that refused and still after 9 years refuses to eat frozen o just dead food. I have 3 female norvegian rats that are my personal pets and were food refused by my snakes ( I share my breakfast with my 3 ladies 😊) and this doesn't stop me from feeding the snakes with something that is exactly as my pet....don't get me wrong, I'm not that kind of sadist or else....for me it is just as natural things works, nothing more nothing less...I don't get mad when my cats kills and eat a bird or a lizard even though I love reptiles and birds...It is just natural. I think for the snakes is even a great way to stay a bit more fit since they are (not in all cases) much more sedentary and unactive than a normal wildlife. When I think about feeding frozen I just feel like hand feeding a person that has the tendecy to be obese on a couch. Maybe I'm wrong but thats the way I feel....it's like a steak, someone want it bloody and some whant it well cooked, eighter ways are right and wrong at the same time.

Brian, I am a former rat breeder. I would get VERY attached to my fuzzies. However, when selling to pet stores, I understood that a fair number would end up as food for reptiles. Did it sadden me? Yes. BUT, I understand that reptiles need to eat. I eventually made sure that stores I sold to understood that I KNEW that. They were more likely to buy from me afterwards. I ALSO would take unsold rats back if they didn't sell. (Though, that rarely happened.) My biggest concern was always the health of the animals. I would inspect a stores habitats, feeding, and care. I wouldn't sell to any store that was lacking in the basics. Even if a 🐀 ended up as reptile feed, the health must still be top-notch.Thank you for NOT showing live feeds. Also, are you aware that there are seperate breeds of rats? Many named after cats breeds! Russian Blues, Siamese, Rex coated (curly haired), Hairless, Irish pattern, Berkshire, Blaze pattern, etc. They are as fascinating as snake varieties/breeds!

I have pet mice and rats for my snakes and my savannah monitor to have sometime i don't enjoy it but thats what I have to do for my ball pythons

When I had my few snakes and lizards, it was when live feeding was the larger percentile of the community. Before places sold frozen rodents and such. My ability to reconcile the fact that this was how it happens in the wild made it easier. But I only ever fed a live guinea pig once. That sound still haunts me, 15 years later.

Here in the U.K. it’s not illegal as such to feed live. But only allowed as a final resort.

Im an animal lover as well but i sure as fuck dont want my snake bitten/scratched/maimed by its prey. You watch it and make sure it is being constricted right whether you like it or not. Otherwise you know what could happen and to ignore that fact for your own sanity is kinda shitty

I will say this- I am an animal lover as well-though rodents give me the creeps-and in our collection we have 4 snakes out of 16 that will ONLY eat live. We, too, do not watch it or even like to hear it, but it’s a necessity 😔.
Speaking of not eating, we have a male lesser that hasn’t eaten for us since we got him in December. And we’ve tried EVERYTHING!

As someone that has owned many many many rats and a lots of snakes I find that having the rats hang out in the room and then feeding frozen works since the room is scented for them. (personally could never ever feed live)

I now have 5 baby balls with a 6th in the works for this week since I started watching over the past year! I wanted to share a God wink with you. I feed frozen and today was my first try with the new babies. Only 2 of the 5 fed but one is in shed, one has never had frozen, and the other I think has ADHD lol. But I love my animals and was starting to worry, even though I’ve had them less than a week. I wasn’t even thinking of watching videos but this popped up on Facebook like it was meant to be! I feel so much better after hearing you talk about this issue. I will do live if I have to but we are on the same page about that 100%. Thanks for doing what you do and thanks to God for always caring about the little things in our lives and letting us know He’s there and He loves us that much!

I had a ball python that would only eat live. I kept trying to get him to eat frozen but he refused. I would put the food and walk away and cry. But I knew my snake needed to eat. I always going back to make sure my snake was ok.

2 of my ball oyhtons didn’t eat for multiple months, they usually eat frozen but I was really worried cause oke was loosing weight a TON. So I sadly had to feed live, first time one ate, then the other didn’t eat even live for weeks then last night finally did 🙏

Sadly it is a part of owning some animals & that is okay. It’s what they would be doing in the wild. To me it is no different than my dog going after a opossum or squirrel a chipmunk any of those & yes he has even brought a few to us. Breaks my heart for them I’ve even cried over them but I also know it’s my dogs nature. To him they are a threat & he is protecting us.

I wasn’t going to watch this vlog because of the title. I have zero interest in watching live feeding, for the same reason that you stated Brian. I love all animals and can’t bare to watch a snake eating a live rat or mouse.
I completely understand that snakes have to eat and if they will only eat live animals then you have no choice, but I still choose not to watch something like that.
I only ended up watching this vlog because I clicked on your video by mistake!! Then I figured that I would watch up to the point where you start the live feeding. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that you weren’t actually going to be showing the live feeding.
So, thank you for that.
